Texas has no individual state income tax, but Houston taxpayers still run into plenty of state and local rules. Business owners may have Texas franchise-tax filings, sales-tax obligations and Harris County business-property reporting alongside their federal returns.



Texas franchise tax reports are generally due May 15. For 2026 and 2027, the no-tax-due threshold is $2.65 million. Even businesses below that threshold can still have information-reporting requirements.
